Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only
Booze and other fluids flow freely among the socialite teenagers of the Upper East Side. Among them, Blair and Vanessa used to be total bee-eff-effs, but they’ve had a falling out. Vanessa shows up uninvited to Blair’s birthday party and tries to make up, but Blair will have nothing of it. Oh well, at least Samantha still has her boy toy Dan… at least until the vindictive Blair has her way.
Based upon a series of novels by author Cecily von Ziegesar which also became a hit cable TV show, Gossip Girl is Yen Press’s second novel-to-comic story to hit print, after Maximum Ride (but before the previously-announced Daniel X and Twilight). A tale of partying, sex, and young women scorn, Gossip Girl is made all the more brutal by its realism (as opposed to the fantasy seen in Jack Frost).
This comicization is created by Korean artist HyeKyung Baek, creator of Bring It On, which has also been released by Yen Press. The story features the same characters as the books and TV show, but with a new plot.
The comment thread on Yen Press’s announcement of GG’s appearance was rather packed with haters who believed there was no overlap on the Venn diagram of Gossip Girl fans and comic fans. Some even got dramatic and threatened to cancel their subscription, even though GG did not “kick” any current comics out of Yen Plus.
