Black Butler (a literal translation of its Japanese title, Kuroshitsuji) is the tale of young Ciel Phantomhive and his domestic help. Despite Ciel’s young age, he has become the head of his very well-to-do British family. His titular butler, Sebastian, is incredibly talented at his humble job… perhaps his talents are even supernatural…
Black Butler’s introduction was foreshadowed in the July 2009 issue, which promised a surprise in the next issue. A further posting on the Yen Press web site kept up the suspense until the issues started shipping to stores and word was leaked.
Black Butler is creator Yana Toboso’s sophomore outing. His first was the six-issue short series RustBlaster, about a human and a vampire who must cooperate to save both their civilizations.
